Additional Information | The full run was Oct 1789 - Aug 1792. The issues included here are: No. 1 (Oct 1789) - No. 9 (Jun 1790). Essays from The Universal Magazine. By George Colman. These essays were originally published in the London Packet, and published with the author's prose works, 1787, 8 vols. The 1787 edition reproduced here. It is entitled Prose on Several Occasions, accompanied with some pieces in verse, and is by George Colman and dedicated to Sir Joseph Banks. It contains: The Genius, The Gentleman, The Adventurer, Terrae-Filius. The journals contain much information and opinion relating to literature, drama, women and humour and adopt a conversational style. |
